Fond Du Lac Denesuline First Nations has a population of about 1500.
About 800 of the band members live on the reserve (#227) located on the north east
shore of Lake Athabasca. Access to the community is primarily by air.
Transwest Air flies into the community on a regular basis throughout the year.
Access is also possible along the winter roads which begin at Points North.
A number of brave souls make the journey along the winter road route in summer
as well using their four-wheel drive vehicles. In the picture below, the
road is marked with a dotted line leading to Black Lake and Stony Rapids.
Our community is situated in the centre of this map at the head of the Fond Du Lac River which empties Lake Athabasca.
Down stream are the communities of Stony Rapids and Black Lake.

Below are photos of our church, the Northern store a combo food and
department store and post office, and the local cafe which is currently being
expanded to include a larger dining area. The community also has two
arcades, a daycare centre, a seasonal hotel, taxi service, and a few other
private enterprises. Because of our remote location, we don't offer the
number of services one might expect for a community of this size.
In addition to the above mentioned services, we also have an
RCMP detachment with three members and a nursing station which includes a
pharmacy. Regular and scheduled visits from health professionals including
doctors make their appearance at the health centre.
